EDITOR’S NOTE: Every week we will be featuring up and coming bands that we just can’t get enough of and we think are worth discovering. These bands and artists not only come from Manila but in other parts of Southeast Asia and the world. Most of them we’ve seen live or had a chat with them at local gigs in the Metro, or at a conference or music showcases overseas.

For this week’s edition, we put the spotlight on indie alternative band, JUICEBOX! The band is set to release their debut EP called DRIVE on Friday April 17th.

Some questions were inspired and lifted from NME’s What’s Your Band Called, Mate?

What’s your band called? JUICEBOX

What do you sound like? We think we sound like some of our favorite bands like Two Door Cinema Club, The Strokes, Last Dinosaurs.

Are you any good (honestly)? We’re good in our own ways. 🙂

What’s your best song? We must say our first single, “Future”.

What’s been your most memorable gig? Definitely our first out of the country show in Hong Kong last October 2019. We got to play at their youth federation’s music festival, which featured different bands from all around Asia. We met new friends, discovered new bands and enjoyed good music all throughout that trip. Also with us representing the Philippines in the festival was our friends and one of our favorite bands, Oh, Flamingo!.

Tell us something really interesting about you, that isn’t to do with music. We love food. Wherever there’s good food, we’re there. Whenever we’re not playing, we’re eating.

Do you have any rituals or process when you write songs? Writing songs for us is never a hassle, which is maybe a good thing. Most of the time it happens when the band jams or during rehearsals. It either starts with a guitar riff, a bassline or a melodic hook. Then we build it from there. We don’t rush finishing new songs, they are always a work in progress and we always try them out live during gigs to gauge if the band is satisfied with the song or if we need to adjust some parts.

What do you want to achieve with your music? We want our music to reach as many people as it can. We want to share our sound to the world and maybe make them dance a little.

Fill in the blanks: When you listen to our music, it feels like ____________ is _________ your ___________. When you listen to our music, it feels like dancing is probably your only option. 🕺🏼

If your band had ‘stans’ (superfans, like Lady Gaga’s Lil Monsters, Ben&Ben’s Ben&BenBBs, Reese Lansangan’s Reese Kids), what would the name for them be? As of now we honestly have no idea, but we’re open to suggestions!

How’s your band been coping with the lockdown? We’ve been posting videos of some of our covers that we did during this quarantine period. We’re also planning the final stages and touches for our digital EP release this month. We’re releasing our debut EP, “DRIVE” this coming April 17, 2020.

Where can we see you next? Most probably at our own prod with Locked Down Entertainment, ONE DRINKS. We’re really looking forward in making an EP launch gig/party soon enough when everything goes back to normal.

What do you want to happen at your last ever show? We just want to enjoy it with each other. Together with the people we love and people who continue to support us.

Any final words? Our debut EP entitled “DRIVE” will be out on April 17, 2020!

Thank you so much Indie Manila for this feature! ❤
